Beeing the home of the Royal Netherlands Air Force since the beginning, Soesterberg AFB is now in his last days of operations: at the end of this year the base will be closed.

Soesterberg has a nice history. It is the oldest airfield in Europe, and second oldest in the world. Many types and squadrons have been stationed here, most memorable the USAF 32nd Figther Group. They left in 1994.

The Chinooks and Cougars already left Soesterberg earlier this year to Gilze-Rijen, and left behind a very quiet airbase.

On November 12 Soesterberg organized a flyby and a little static show, with 2 F-15s performing a take off with full afterburner. A spectacular view and surely will be remembered for years.
